An interesting post from author Charles Stross, all of whose books I own. It’s on the topic of why he hates Star Trek.

Now, I don’t hate Trek at all, but the things I dislike about it the most are related to why Stross hates it. The worst thing being, of course, the reset switch.

They routinely discover (or just plain already have) technology which is totally game-changing, but it never seems to matter. The holodeck alone is pretty much the end of everything. Oh, you have tech that can simulate any environment, ever, totally realistically? Let’s use it to, say, play some games in on our days off. NO. LET’S LIVE THERE FOREVER.

Oh, you found a Dyson sphere? Let’s go “Huh” and fly away. NO. LET’S SPEND FOREVER FIGURING OUT HOW IT WORKS BECAUSE SWEET JESUS THAT’S ENGINEERING ON A COSMIC SCALE.

Oh, your transporter de-aged people? Let’s just ‘fix’ that and laugh about it. NO. YOU JUST ACCIDENTALLY INVENTED IMMORTALITY. FOR FUCKS SAKE. ASSHOLES.

I don’t hate Trek, but I see where Charlie is coming from.
